It hurt then but I laugh out loud about it now. Who was your favorite/toughest/inspirational teacher? Hands down it is Mrs. Fischer because she gave us a chance to open up with each other. Ann succeeded in getting us to really think on a higher level which was a first for most of us. Her class was the one you looked forward to every week and the one you hated to leave when the bell ran. Which high school class do you wish you paid more attention to? I would have to say all of them. I had to go to college and pay to learn the stuff I was supposed to have learned in high school for free. All of which I've pretty much forgotten by now. Looking back, what's one thing you would change about who you were or what you did in high school? Wow, there are so many things I would have changed it is hard to pick just one. As I look through my old yearbook I have discovered my biggest problem was that I was invisible. If I had it to do all over again I would try everything just for the experience. I would talk with people, go to club meetings, stretch my boundaries, take chances. Where was I? What makes you happy? Watching my boys grow up. The quiet moments with my wife. Cycling down a country road with friends. What advice would you give graduates of the Class of 2006? Now is time to take chances and make mistakes. Live your life like the adventure it is. Wounds heal but memories last forever. Other memories from high school: I remember the time Chuck Studebaker, John Stichweh, and I rolled a golf cart at Chuck's house. John probably still has the scars on his leg to prove it.

My most inspirational was Mrs. Elsner from Studebaker – she taught English also, but she inspired me in Drama Club. Toward the end of our senior year I was walking down the hall with friends and I started bad mouthing another classmate, just trying to be cool, fit in, not even knowing what I was saying really…well it turned out that he was right behind me and he heard everything! He confronted me and I was speechless. I have always felt bad about that and wish to publicly apologize. “I take it all back and I am truly sorry, Mark.” I’ve been carrying that for years...Boy, do I feel better! Okay, so maybe I’ve been watching a little too much Dr. Phil. Where was your favorite place to hang out in high school? Well, I guess I was there but not really there. I worked there; everybody’s favorite hangout – Taco Bell. How do you think your life will be different in the next 5-10 years? My children will be more self-sufficient so I won’t be changing diapers and wiping noses and bottoms, but then again, they won’t be driving yet so I’m guessing I’ll be their taxi driver. Ask me about the next 15-20! What makes you happy? Singing for God, my husband and our boys, I love watching them play together and playing with them, spending time with family and friends, getting away as a family and on my own for an evening a week to recharge and rejuvenate (Husbands with stay-at-home wives make this a priority in your family, you’ll be glad you didJ)! What advice would you give graduates of the Class of 2006? My advice would be more for those graduating in 07-09, and I guess it can apply for those going on to college. Don’t worry so much about the boyfriend and girlfriend thing and concentrate on just the friends! Get involved in all of the sports, drama, band and school activities as you can, make friends and have fun! You’ll have plenty of time to spend looking for love. This time in high school is so short and precious. Use it to build life-long friendships instead of fly-by-night relationships. Other memories from high school: Looking forward to talking with everyone about them when we see each other. There are too many to mention!

I'd actually hoped to be moving soon enough to stop by Dayton during the reunion weekend. Where have you lived since Senior Year? College in IN, Summer jobs in MI & TX, Central NJ, Salem, OR What college did you attend? Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN - B.S.I.E. 1991 I've also picked up some accounting at Chemeketa Comm. College in Oregon. What is your current occupation? Unemployed Industrial Engineer What is your all-time dream occupation? Employed Industrial Engineer & Project Mgr. Or Broadway Star 8^) Favorite place you've traveled? Ed & I work to support our travel habits. - Great Britain & Northern Europe. My husband & I did the youth hostel thing after college and we walked west thru Checkpoint Charlie - who'd have thunk it? The history & art are amazing & the Anne Frank house was moving - it really is small. - I love the National Park system and Olympic NP is my favorite. Combined with my birth city of Seattle and Paradise Inn on Mt. Rainier - it makes a great trip. - We drove to Salt Lake to watch the 2002 Olympics. Our feet were on national TV (if you stop frame the video really slowly). It was just a sampler of tickets but we saw Apollo Ono's win and the very last thing was standing for our National Anthem! - Plus NYC, Austin, Disney World, Hawaii, San Diego, Philly & the blessing of friends around the country. What is your all-time dream vacation? More time in Europe - this time including the southern part (Italy, Greece). Someday the Holy Land. Maybe Japan or China. Have you ever met anyone famous? Itsak Perlman (violin), Coach Gene Keady, I litteraly bumped into Baryshnikov. I discussed theater with (dancer) Twyla Tharp - for about 6 seconds! Who are you looking forward to seeing most at the reunion? The DJ. I really wanted to come and dance. But I broke my left foot in March & my right leg in May. Then spent my birthday week in the hospital with an infection from my insulin pump. While y'all at the picnic, I'll be getting IV antibiotics. (It has not been a good year.) I also wanted to visit all the music/choir & theater people, especially Inez & Amy S.. Plus all the people I grew up with from Valley Forge and anyone who was kind to me. Favorite memory from high school? After Sr. musical, sitting IN a Mark Gau hug, with Patrick Jones & Matt Schantz across from us in a 2 person booth @ Friendly's. I still have trouble understanding some of these things (maybe the fact I slept thru Sr. civics...) Looking back, what's one thing you would change about who you were or what you did in high school? Take a few more risks personally and socially. Not many - but a few. Actually learning how to study or write a lab report sure would have helped. I hope to move back to the east coast to be a bit closer to friends, family & my God-Nephew Garrick Schmalhofer (He is as smart as his mom and as cute & kind as his dad. I might be biased on this point - but I doubt it). I hope to get some control over my physical & emotional health. Moving to Oregon (9 years ago) has not been good for us in many ways. What makes you happy? Making a difference. What advice would you give graduates of the Class of 2006? Explore the extracurricular as much as you can before earning a living takes up so much time. Don't sweat High School too much. In as little as 3 months, no one will care about it - they will take you as you are. It is a big world in some ways. Don't give up until you give it a try. Other memories from high school: Dancing at Beat Club (Gimmie a Beat!). Footloose with Jeff, Teresa & David. Plays - (Was Brodie cursed?), cast parties & "blotting lipstick." Patrick kissing my shoulder because the girl he liked had danced with him. The lunch bunch - 10th & 12th grade. ************************************************************ " She rocked out to Wham! Not a big Limp Bizkit fan. Thought she'd get a hand - on a member of Duran Duran. Where's the miniskirt…? And who's the other guy that's singing in Van Halen? --- When did Motley Crue become classic rock? On the radio was Springsteen, Madonna, Way before Nirvana - there was U2 & Blondie & music still on MTV. " - Bowling for Soup, 1985
